Administrative Experience skills for the industry

Administration in all its forms, is a necessary skill for all performing musicians and artists. Understanding the many variations of 'work' that life as a musician might encompass is an important part of Deborah's job as a teacher and mentor - preparing music students for work in the industry. Deborah has had extensive experience of arts administration, managing fellow artists, touring, funding applications, project management and completion, recording, editing, marketing and working within university administration.

  • Curriculum Renewal Coordinator 2016: working in administration to collate and assist the team lead by Matthew Hindson in the design of the new Conservatorium of Music USYD subjects Majors Minors Programs and Course Descriptions. Further work on the integrity of LMS sites and Learning Management System overview (USYD Conservatorium) 2016

  • Administration, touring, CD production and recording with ensemble Power of Three

  • Administrator, Director, founder performer K.V. Inc. Ku-ring-gai Virtuosi Founder of ensemble, administrated for 9 years included programming selection, advertising, promotion, press releases, venue hire, piano hire, booking and paying fellow artists, promotion (photography, brochure design, mailing, subscriber administration and management, tour planning, recording, and management

  • Founding President of P.A.K. Inc. Performing Arts Ku-ring-gai. As founding member and president of arts lobby group we successfully had appointed and arts officer to our local municipality. Co-produced events with Ballet D’Action, Cavalcade, Ku-ring-gai Virtuosi and others to raise funds and community awareness 1995 – 1997

  • Instigating Administrator Rising Stars Workshop /collaboration Killara Music Club and Ku-ring-gai Council. Selecting students from application and audition, the chosen were given free workshops over the weekend in chamber music by Len Vorster (piano) and me. These workshops culminated in a performance to Killara Music Club, friends and family - 2004

  • Secretary and committee member M.W.P. Inc.  - Musicians for World Peace. As an active member I assisted in organizing fund raising concerts spanning several years with Joan Sutherland, James Galway and Igor Oistrach and orchestral member of combines SSO, AOBO and freelance orchestras. Proceeds went to Community Aid Abroad, Oxfam and Unicef

  • Assistant administrator, performer Amadeus Wind Players of Sydney Working as a player, secretary and orchestral manger I co-administrated several large projects such as LP recording, the Elms Collection with Telstra Australia and performed in this ensemble for 5 years

Projects and Grants

Designing and creating  projects and applying for grants are an essential part of the skill set required for  work in the creative and music world.

  • Successfully applied for, awarded, administrated and performed in $45,000 Thyne Reed Trust Donation funding for Walsingham Ulpirra and ABC Brahms CD project

  • Successfully applied for, awarded, administrated and performed SHELL - $10,000 sponsorship -Ku-ring-gai Virtuosi STUDIO Series presented at Sydney Opera House Series 

  • Assisted in successful application and performed in Telecom Australia sponsorship ($25,000) The Elms Collection

  • Successfully applied for, awarded, administrated and completed documentation for Local Council Funding grants (c$1200 for 9 years) Ku-ring-gai Virtuosi

  • Successfully applied for, awarded and completed a collaborative project as Ensemble in Residence – Three of Hearts performing, workshopping, teaching performance and stage craft with students and music staff at The Pittwater House School

  • Successfully applied for, awarded, and completed documentation for Alfred S White grant for over 3 years for KV

  • Successfully applied for, administrated and completed documentation for commissions from numerous composers, Holley, Smith, Henderson, Coyle, and Staggs 

  • Awarded a translation grant from Sydney Conservatorium of Music to research further material I brought back from Hungary on player RSI prevention – by Dr Geza Kovacs (Elpis Liosssatos translator of material)


Fund Raising

What can we give to our world - as well as the joy of music ?

  • Member of committee and assistant secretary for Musicians for World Peace,  (SOH) Joan Sutherland, James Gallway, David Oistrach. $50k, $30k $25k donated to charities such as Community Aid Abroad, Oxfam and Unicef    

  • Performer and committee member for Music Cares for Cancer (SOH) and (Town Hall) Richard Bonynge, Robin Mate, Sydney Adventist Hospital performer and committee

  • Performer for Zonta – fund raising for music scholarship
